Brakes on Tahoe problem?

1. Yes, you are crazy Says: This is difficult to describe. I drive a 2002 Chevy Tahoe with upgraded tow package. When I brake something weird happens when my truck gets down to 6 mph. The brake seem to 'slip' and then it sounds like a bump bump bump noise from the wheel and then it stops and the car comes to a stop.

By slip it seems that the brakes stop working for about 0.3 seconds and then re-engage. This used to happen occacsionaly (maybe 5% of the time) now it happens about 85% of the time. It sounds, and feels, like it only happening to the front drivers side tire.

Anyone have any idea what this could be. And its weird that it only happens when i slow down to 6mph never faster and never slower.
2. james Says: Sounds like an ABS (Antilock Braking System) fault.

Could be a few other things too.

Just did a quick Dogpile search.

3. doornobk Says: That is a common problem for the GM trucks. Its from rust building up on the front wheel abs sensors. Some models can be taken apart and cleaned and they will work again. Other cases it has to be replaced and the bummer part is the sensor is part of the bearing so it could easily be a $250 part. Other thing that stinks is the wheels and brakes have to come apart to get to the sensor so there is a bit of labor involved. IF you have the correct scan tool and you have it connected when the problem happens they can usually tell which sensor is the problem.
