3. hornchurchmale Says: a set screw can work loose under vibration. use an anti vibration washer and thread sealer. ( eg loctite ) or we can drill a thin hole through nut and shaft if soft enough ? and fit a split pin. the former will not lose any nut/ bolt strength any drilling will of course weaken and may present a stress point susceptible to failure later .
if you have enough thread protruding? another nut can be used to lock first nut in place but this ideally should have an anti- loosening device such as locking washer, thread sealer etc.
if possible simply fit an anti vibration locking nut such as found on car joints such as exhaust flanges or steering joints. these have either a plastic insert that 'grips' thread very tightly as it gets cut into when tightening or the 'clenched' nut with part of itself pushed in to grip threads and prevent loss of torque.
4. Michael S Says: If you have enough threads after you tighten the nut, then you can get another nut and put that one on next and tighten it down. That's a jam nut and it should work.
5. chris Says: Tighten down the screw and weld it.
