Is a car mechanic a good job?
(2011-12-18 15:20:13) 1. Says: i have always loved cars and i really want to work with them, i have an applied for college in vehicle maintenance and repair. is it a good steady job if you get an apprenticeship and you can do private jobs on weekends.2. Says: Years ago it was rubbish. I did an apprenticeship back in the '70's. In those days the job was easy, Cars were uncomplicated, labour rates were relatively high and we were basically 'Fitters', throwing new parts at problems.Nowadays the complexity of new cars demands a high degree of "Technician", with electronic diagnostic skills.
The important thing is to get a 'proper' apprenticeship backed preferably by a main dealer - 'Prestige' if possible (BMW Merc Audi etc) to give you some proper qualifications.
A top class Technician will earn good money - And deserve it.3. Says: About 5 years ago, I would have said yes but not now.
I've studied mechanics at college for 5 years and now I've got the certificates, they are ******* useless, basically 5 years of my life is written off with nothing I can use, I have found out now that the only way I can get into the garage is with an apprenticeship and they are like gold dust thanks to her ******* majesties royal government, but as long as the MP's with their £100,000 or so per year, who gives a **** about the rest of us.
Sorry if that sounds like a rant, I'm at a very frustrating time in my damn life right now but I'm confident that something will turn up.
@Amanda - That's one of the things that drew me to it, also that I love cars but the way you have written it, makes it sound easy to get into, but in the real world its incredibly hard.4. Says: Personaly i think it is, although it depends on where you work and what type of vehicles you specialize in.
Private jobs are a good way to make some extra cash, Just remember To do a quality job and stand behind your work and you will be good to go.5. Says: Yes it's a very good job . You get paid nicely you'll enjoy this job as long as you don't mind getting dirty6. Says: We have a saying in York-sha ''where theres muck theres munnee''. so go get yer 'ands mucky and earn sum gud brass! Tag: Is a car mechanic a good job?
