1. Latrenee Jones-richardson Says: I bought 1998 ford taurus from a auto auction about 2 months ago. When i got in the car i (after i paid the cash) i could not start the car. The BATTERY was completely dead and rusty.... I got a jump and made it home (i bought a new battery asap) but there was another problem i noticed instantly... When the car is not moving for about 5 seconds or more there will be a problem when i go to press the gas.. Makes loud vroom sound and does not move... Only way it will move is to put car in park or neutral and then back to drive... So now i have had my car 3 months and my Battery light came on... I googled it and it looks like the Battery light is on bc of the alternator... About 45 mins later i was almost home and felt like car was giving out i turned my hazard lights on and pulled over car my car made loud buzzing noise and i believe all lights were blinking (it all happened so fast) i never turned the car off but the car was not on i tried to start but was unsuccesful about fifteen minutes later the car started and im thinking maybe alternater is causing transmission slippage? This is my first car i dont know anything. When i had a mechanic look at the car a month ago he said the transmission works great beside when at idol and then giving gas. when i first got the car the mechanic said that the the problem of transmision slippage he believes it to be electrical issue like maybe seleniod idk but that was b4 my battery light came on so im not sure but i think if alternator has to do with voltage shortage or bad electrical circulation maybe the cause of what i thought was a bad transmission. Possibly if i get alternator fixed also my transmission will work better???

Any mechanics out there
2. Paul Says: "You never to the "Pre-Viewing" before the sale? from what you say; Battery needs to be taken out and fully charged, New Battery Cables, New Alternator (Bad Alternator is turning on the Battery light), You can check the shift linkage but yes lack of power to the shift solenoids will also cause the shifting problem. "Clean the Battery Tray and Replace the "Hold Down" {When Repairs Complete have the Engine & Transmission Completely Steam Cleaned}
3. MRneatfreak Says: If the alternator isn't charging the battery and supplying the power to the ignition required for spark plugs etc. Then nothing is going to run. It will only run as long as there is a charge on the battery, then once its dead, the engine and transmission dies, until you charge the battery again. Replace the alternator, and life will be good, until you find what else doesn't work, because you can't drive the car that much right now. Alternator is about $35-$120.
4. MasTec 1970 Says: If your car dies while driving and it will start back up without a jump then the alternator is NOT causing the problem! Also just as the other poster said the AX4-S and the AX4N (4F50N) transmissions are prone to failure!

ADDED: If the vehicle has enough voltage to control the engine management system (PCM) and ignition coil pack then it has enough to power the transmission!
5. roger Says: what ever you are good at in life keep doing it ok, because the way a car work is not part of what you know. there is not bad electric circulation in your car, you bought a car well known for multiple problems including transmission failure around 130.000 miles and electrical and engine problems.
Go online and check carcomplaints.com and see how many complaints the ford taurus has which is over 1,400 at this point. your tranny is not slipping so much as not engaging when its stopped. Im going to type " ford taurus transmission does not want to move when put in gear and see what pops up.well there are others with similar problems and as i expected you should never have bought this car , sorry an auction is a horrible way to buy any car, you have no idea what car you are getting and in reality can only bid on what you see.
There is no good way to look for an auction car as far as I am concerned if I cannot test drive it I dont want it. period. I have had too to many crummy vehicles as it is Always test drive a car before buying best of luck
