Is it safe to buy a 2002 Grand am the timing chain was broke and replaced?
(2012-01-08 15:20:08) 1. Says: I looking to buy a 2002 grand am with 134000 miles. The timing chain was broke but he replaced the timing chain, gears, valves and head gasket.. The car also past the Pennsylvania car inspection.2. Says: If the car starts and runs without making noise, it should be fine. He replaced all the necessary things to restore car to good running condition. Most timing chains do NOT break, but can if oiol starved from poor oil choices and sludge build-up from doing so. Iw ould try for a better purchase than this, but be SURE there is no noise at start-up. THis is where the issue would resurface first. GOOD LUCK!!3. Says: Shouldn't be a problem.Neither engine offered in 2002 used a cam belt and are not interference engines, so the fact that the timing chain broke could not cause any internal engine damage.4. Says: Be advised this IS an interference motor. Personally, without an internal inspection of the engine, I would not buy the vehicle. Reference link below.5. Says: first of all car doesnt have a chain has a belt also did any push rods get bent whick usally happens when you break a belt Tag: Is it safe to buy a 2002 Grand am the timing chain was broke and replaced?
