Problem with my car.....need help ASAP!?
(2012-01-08 15:20:11) 1. Says: Ok, my car has a bit of an odd problem that I can't seem to figure out. I'm going to explain everything in detail that has happened recently.Car Details: 2002 Chevy Cavalier, 140,000 miles exactly, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
Over the last year and a half, I have taken my car into the mechanic to do some repairs. My new car recieved a new catalyst converter, ignition tune up, two new o2 censors, and new coils.
A couple of months ago, I was driving on the highway and suddenly my car stalled on me. That was only once and I managed to get home without any further problems. I left my car alone for about 2 days. After that, I drove it once again on the highway. It stalled on me repeadetly to the point where I couldn't drive it for more than a few 100 yards without it gagging on me. However, I managed to get it onto the city streets and it ran fine and had continued to run fine, no stalling or anything. I haven't even bothered to drive on the highway since. Over the last month though while driving on the city streets, my car has started to stall on me yet again when ever I get past 50/55 mph or 3 rpms and when i also have other appliances running such as radio and the heat. It got so bad to the point where I haven't even been able to get out of my subdivision. I recently charged my battery and my car has managed to run fine in the city streets again, but I know it won't last.
My question is what the heck is wrong with my car? I have a feeling it may be that i need a gas filter or new battery, but I'm not sure how that is tied in with my car stalling out, especially when I try to get up to a high speed.
I would really appreciate if someone can give me a suggestion on what to do. I would take it to a mechanic, but I want that to be a last resort, especially if this ends up being a simple problem.
One final thing, I got my alternator checked and its fine.2. Says: Your vehicle is starving for something, air or fuel. Check/replace both of them. If it is the fuel filter and you neglect to replace it, it will eventually ruin the fuel pump.3. Says: The easiest, cheapest, quickest thing you can do is to remove the gas cap,and see if that does it for you. If the gas cap vent is clogged the engine will stop running. If that isn't the problem, next change the fuel filter. Those are the fastest cheapest things you can do.From there you have to do a digital trouble shooting by a mechanic.4. Says: My first leaning would be the fuel filter. If it's clogged, the engine will starve for fuel at high speeds. Tag: Problem with my car.....need help ASAP!?
