1. Noodle Doodle Says: so i have brand new radiator install with new pipes and filled it up on radiator coolant. but it doesn't seem to be working, if i drive it slow (15 kmh) for 3 mins the needle on the temperature gage would shoot up almost over half way. if i left it parked with the engine on for about 2 mins it will most probably boil over. there is no leaks any or any problems i can see. what do you guys think it is? is this normal?

thank you for your help.
2. roger Says: It probably has air pockets let the cap off start the car and let it idle. WATCH THE THERMO STATE OPEN you should see the coolant start to circulate. If the vehicle starts to overheat right away, shut it down the thermostat may be stuck or the new one you should have put in is backwards ( it does happen) leave cap off if level drops add some coolant then rev the engine slowly up the rpm to a few thousand and back down to idle you want to try and get all the air pockets out of the system once the vehicle has warmed up and the coolant is steaming good from the radiator open cap. Put the cap on drive the car for a few minutes around the block and park and let cool for several hours. You should replace radiator cap don't use an old one. after vehicle cools off make sure radiator is full most of the air bubbles should be gone but monitor the temp gauge to be sure. If you still have overheating within a few
3. yes_its_me Says: The coolant is not circulating. Possible causes include a stuck thermostat (it should be replaced every time you service the cooling system), loose belt allowing the water pump to not work efficiently, Also, some other items to check, a pressure test on the cooling system, and remember to test the cap.
4. J J Says: I agree with the thermostat, to bad you didn't ask sooner that radiator cost a lot more the the thermostat will. Run it for two minutes, what were you thinking.
5. Lamberto Says: They have given you almost all probable cause of overheating but take into consideration also a cylinder gasket leak. might be the culprit.
6. Michael T Says: sounds like the thermostat is stuck closed
7. bandit_60 Says: did you change the thermostat ? it could be stuck closed. is the fan kicking on ?
