What is this noise coming from when i steer?
(2012-01-11 15:15:07) 1. Says: I drive a 1976 Camaro LT and every time I steer there seems to be a noise coming from the axle, not sure if thats it though, but it sounds pretty loud, sounds like a creaking noise if I were to describe it.2. Says: The 76 Camaro has dual tapered roller bearing in the front drums, and need greasing and adjusting every 5 years or so.The noise probably means it is too late and they need replacement.
Parts about $75, and about an hour labor, assuming only one side.
Adjustment is 0 preload but also 0 freeplay. Perfectly inbetween.
Makes the most noise on turns because camber takes the slack out when straight.
But could also just be power steering belt tension adjustment.
Can't tell without hearing it.
That is much easier, takes 5 seconds, and anyone can do it themselves.3. Says: power steering pump/belt? if its a squeak
if its a pop/creak, then its probbably a bad ball joint4. Says: worn out leaf spring or swap bar bushings ? Tag: What is this noise coming from when i steer?
