1. Mayn Says: I'm picking up my 2008 Polo 1.4 Trendline on Friday but I would like to fix/service it myself when necessary. Where and how can I learn to do that? I'm in the Cape Town region.
2. Robert M Says: THere are a few SIMPLE things to make sure your VW will operate easily and the logest with the fewest problems. First of all, realize that your VW REQUIRES only synthetic engine oil that "meets or exceeds VW/AUDI specification 502/505," The proper OIL for this engine will last for one year between changes. It will keep your engine FREE of sludge and acidic oil vapors that will CLOG up other engine parts. NO conventional oil MAY be used at ALL in a VW/Audi engine!!! READ the labelon your oil choice and LOOK for the VW approval ratings!!! This is the NUMBER one thing to do. VERY simple. Learn how to CHECK and CLEAN your THROTTLE body and IDLE AIR CONTROL valve. Have SOMEONE show you HOW to do this. Take pictures with your phone camera to remind yourself. Nearly ALL expensive car issues WILL be AVOIDED by using the BEST and CORRECT oil, and keeping your T body and IDLE system clean as SHOWROOM! WHen you are BORED, read your owners' manual from COVER to COVER, and focus on FLUID choices and MAINTENANCE schedules. Your timing blet REQUIRES replacement BEFORE it breaks. Use ONLY genuine VW/Audi fluids, and NEVER let your fluids get topped up at oil change centers. They will often install the WRONG fluids in the WRONG places. GOOD LUCK!!!!
3. chales Says: be careful, dont jump on any big projects to start, start with something simple like changing the oil, and if you have any friends who are good with cars have them help you but work side by side. and i would also suggest getting a Hayes manual for your vehicle, they go though every single thing you need to know to work on your specific car. one last thing before you get started, you will soon learn that everything that you ever have to do work wise on a car is a huge pain in the **** lol.
