1. mars Says: hi, my car bought couple months ago 2008 accord lxp, less than 30k miles, still within comprehensive warranty, i found there are two door frame rubber seals became loose both on front side, it's separating from the metal frame a little bit, looks like the rubber contracting or the grue is gone. there's little sound when driving above 50mph on a cold day...the rattle sounds like wire sparking...

took it to one of honda dealership in brooklyn during last oil change...becoz i am scare they will charge me $100 for diagnois the problem, they said it's not cover by warranty, and to replace both rubber seals, the total would be $300....yes, $300...no kidding...the car is running very good, no water leaking, no performer loss, no other problem significant, just the mystic sound appear on the front passenger side, i thought it's the glove box, the sound goes away with the box drop open...but i'm not sure.... my monthy car payment is only $250, the service advisor want $300 to change two rubber seals!!!,,,, i say i need to think about it....please tell me what u think guys....thanks a lot!!!

PS. i hate deal with the car dealership and their service department, so so so expensive, and you feel weak against, i want take car to local mechanic but i am afraid they dont do the job rite...last week i change my cabin air filter cost me around less then 30 dollar...if i do it at dealer ship they would charge around $150.....just google it, it's couple minute jobs...so easy......it's unbelievable....
2. Joe Says: You are getting ripped off. If the seals you are talking about are the ones that go around the entire door they are charging you about 3 times too much.

I just looked those parts up on my estimating computer... $27.38 for each seal and .4 hour to change each one, for a total of $102.07. That is based on the $54.00 per hour that we charge for labor. I'm in the mid-west so I don't know what the labor rate is in Brooklyn, but it would have to be astronomical to add up to $300 to change those seals.
3. pedro7of9 Says: it must suck living in fear all the time
choices
1 get free estamate from dealer yes i get free,,written estamates all the time
2 check price of rubber and DIY...if you think its so easy,,buy rubber and have at it,,try www rock auto.com.......or auto door seals
3 have local mechanic do it,,[its easy]
yes unbelievable
4. keith p Says: You don't need to change the rubbers all you need to do is re glue the rubbers ,but use a glue that does not give off fumes ,and you do not have to have the cabin filters change at every service ,once ever three years ,that is the time scale i used .
5. bo Says: check a few auto body shops see what their rate is don't forget its the price of the parts and book labor so if book labor says 4.5 hours@ say 40 dollars an hour to replace the parts that what they charge
6. Pilsner Man Says: That's why they are called stealerships.
