Mercedes A Class Immobiliser problem?
(2010-05-29 11:01:28) 1. Says: My colleague has just spent £500 on trying to get an immobiliser problem fixed and it hasn't worked. Basically she parks up and the car won't turn over. She needs to leave the car for around 10 minutes and the car then turns over but this seems to be more luck than judgement. The only thing I can see is the front air bag light seems to come on when she turns the car over. Any help or advice on this would be appreciated.2. Says: You are not stating what year and engine is the vehicle. Older A-Class of W168 series had chronic problems with immobiliser box and there were no real cure from the dealership. A trick to make the car start reliably every time the key is turned was to install an emulator that would always send a valid drive authorization signal to the engine computer. Obviously, the antitheft protection will suffer but replacing the immo box or reprogramming the engine ECU will bring only temporary resolution of the problem. If there is unusual light combination when the car refuses to start (ie. some dash lights missing that would normally come up after turning the key to second position) then the electric power supply is to be checked and the issue most probably has nothing to do with actual immo thing.
BTW: does the car display "start error" message in the instrument cluster, by any chance? Tag: Mercedes A Class Immobiliser problem?
