1. Josh Says: I bought a 2000 Cavalier about two months ago, and it's making a noise now as soon as I start it. It does need an A/C compressor, so there is a noise from that. But the new noise just started. It's heard more so in the driver and passenger seats, while the A/C compressor noise is from outside. The noise is louder when I hit the accelerator. I know I need an oil change, I bought the car with 108k, and its at 111k now. Any ideas on what the noise could be?
2. phoongdan Says: Maybe your power steering pump is starting to go? Could also be a belt is starting to go. Water pump commonly goes out on the '00 - '02 Cavs, they will make a whining sound for a day or so which will progress to a metallic sound before it starts spouting out water! It could be a lot of things, I'd just take it to a shop and let them take a look at it.
3. Evil C Says: Can you maybe put a name to the noise? Is it like a clunk, or a pop, or a knock? Can't help you any on just "a noise"
4. Gerardo D, EA Says: Change your oil first. Check the clearances and braces on your exhaust pipes and even the braces CAT convertor.
