Is this a lifter tap?

(2012-01-22 15:15:19)
1. Eric Says: 2000 F150 xlt. 4.6L 2V. The engine sounds good at idle and hile cruising, but under acceleration (especially from a stop) I can hear an obvious tapping. If it IS a lifter tapping, why would it only be audible during acceleration?

Any suggestiions / advise on fixing the issue also appreciated
2. Shaun H-A Says: If it was a lifter, it would not matter if the engine was under a load or not.
Firstly, I would be suspect of an exhaust leak.
3. MasTec 1970 Says: No, this is a timing chain tensioner that has collapsed! This is a common issue with the Ford Modular motors of this vintage! This noise is most often caused by a restricted oil feed orfice (the main oil feed is on the passenger side, the very rear camshaft bearing cap!
