Do I need a new power steering pump...HELP?

1. DontTell Says: I have a 2000 Nissan maxima which I have been having power steering leak for sometime finally got it fixed by some back yard mechanic which resulted in my car making a wining sound. Well.. here we are 2 months later and I go to start me car and the it makes a loud wining noise and the steering wheel wont turn at all. I tried everything but it wont turn. I can move the car in the gears but just can't turn the wheel.

Does this mean my power steering has gone? Is it worth fixing any idea how much??

However, the more probable thing is that you have ruined your steering rack. That's what may have caused the whining along with being low on steering fluid.
Are you able to steer the car with the engine off but the ignition switch ON (so that the steering lock releases)?
BTW. You DID verify that this isn't the steering wheel lock....right?
Probably time to take it to the dealer for an estimate.

Your car is still worth enough to get it fixed.
Your backyard mechanic might allow you to use parts from ebay and save you bucks.

3. Soldier82nd Says: Uh never go to a backyard mechanic,unless you know their work .Sorry,but your power steering is toast might even be worse,should have never let it leak that long.You gotta treat your machine like a lady be nice!
