How do you remove a freeze plug from an engine block?

(2012-01-24 15:20:15)
1. Rene Says: can the freeze plug be removed from the outside of the block?
2. tod m Says: usually knock one side in, causing it to pivot so you can grab it with channel locks and pull it out.
3. Robert M Says: Yeah, if there is room to work on it. Typically you use a freeze plug puller. OR you just drill a hole in it, and drive in a hefty screw or bot, and PRY it out. They are usually glued in place. GOOD LUCK!!
4. jvclassic Says: Yes.
Drive a screwdriver thru it and pry it out.

Be careful not to score block hole.
5. Don D Says: You can run a screw in it and pry it out.
Not sure why you would want it out.
To put the new one in just tap it into place.
