Did Ford ever fix the explosive problem with the Pinto?

(2012-01-24 15:25:03)
1. I am the walrus Says: Yes they did actually fix the problem. It was a gas tank sans the bladder. the last model year of the Pinto had a gas tank bladder in the gas tank
2. Cool Beans Says: Yes, Pinto fuel cells were installed with bladders. The second fix required a steel plate installed between the rear bumper and fuel cell. Ditto with the badge engineered Mercury Bobcat, though not immune from accidents the Pinto wagon had 10 inches of extra sheet metal in between the rear bumper and tank so it didn't require a recall. Apparently why most vehicle manufacturers and FMC applications have installed fuel cells under passenger seat to this date.
