It was the first year of a major design and engine overhaul and the reliability on that model year is absolutely terrible.

As for gas mileage I'm not sure but for off road handling neither of there are specifically made for off roading but adding upgrades such as shocks and other suspension parts can make both better for off roading. If your looking for a vehicle made for off roading then I would look at Jeeps.4.
