Will it cost £250 to go 500 miles?

1. Alan Says: I know its hard to tell as all cars are different. I am planning a journey to north wales from somerset. Its approx 500 miles to there and back. My friend said it will cost £250 in petrol... Is this true? I worked it out at about no more than £100. The tank holds around £50 quids worth of petrol 1.20Pp-ish/1L. Ive passed my test a few weeks back and ive only had this car for about that long. My car is a vauxhall astra 1997 and like i say i haven't had it that long so i don't really know the mileage. It runs pretty well but doesn't go through THAT much petrol tbh. He is a bit of a bullshitter and to me that seems a HUGE price just for 500 miles...Am don'tght or is he right?

2. Who Says: put it this way

your car does - say 30miles /gal (probably better if you take it easy - I drive around 60 on motorways - stay on the inside lane just keep pace with the lorries. Takes a bit longer but not much BUT - no hassle, no worries no stress

500 miles would take 500/30 = say 17 gallons (I still work in old money)

Petrol is say £5 per gal (I know its less but lets keep it simple)

So the cost is 5x17 = £85 absolute max.

3. sandy Says: 500 miles?? You could go from Somerset to Dundee in Scotland and it would be less miles! And as long as you stick to roughly the speed limit your car will probably make it to Dundee and back in 2 tanks. So if a full tank costs you £50 then £100 should be your maximum spend going to Wales mate

4. Fairdo4all Says: If it is 500 miles in total for the round trip ypou will be looking at £70-£85, no more than that and maybe a bit less depending on how many people in the car and how heavy your right foot is.

5. PAUL Says: I used to trravel from Anglesey to Plymouth every other weekend in a Toyota MR2 and never used more than £140 of fuel for a round trip (there and back) and I wasn't exactly hanging around.

6. Chris Says: If it does there's something wrong you can usually get 450 to 500 mile out of a full tank

7. who_is_jack_**** Says: My 3ltr twin turbo wouldn't use that much fuel even with my foot to the floor. Your looking at £150 maximum with a heavy foot.
