What do you need to build a 350 from just a block?

1. Zapawaf Says: I'm looking into every possible way to replace my cracked 350 out of my 79 Corvette.
I've been looking at crates via summitracing.com Jegs.com and some other places here and there, mainly looking at long blocks. But it seems they tac on more money for just adding 1 part (IE: Intake) and it's usually for more then what it'd cost to buy the part and put it on yourself.
I know some of the basics like pistons, rods, intake yada yada, but I'm sure there's a lot of things I'm either not aware of, so I was hoping there might be a site out there or someone could come up with a solid list for a newbie like myself? I would appreciate it very much.

Even if it's to much for someone not so experienced like myself, if I had all the components needed I have a trust worthy family friend who has done multiple rebuilds and knows his stuff.
2. chevyraceman_383 Says: This is off the top of my head, so I might miss one or two things..

3. Kenny Says: Cracked what? The block? Heads? You can check with your local engine rebuilt shop and ask how much for a replacement long block. It would be cheaper than Summit or Jegs.
4. anotherredman Says: Unless you are looking to increase power you might want to look at local rebuilt short blocks or even having the crack repaired in your block. Or you could go with the 290hp GMPP long block for a new engine with more power and less than $2000 cost. In general, new factory parts are very expensive individually and do not make a practical repair unless you are really bucks up. Someplace will sell you a crate engine much cheaper than you can find them in Summit or Jegs. Try CME or Powerhouse.
