1. Tracey R Says: I am due a service on a 59 plate car that is on hire purchase, Do i have to have it serviced at the main dealership or can I rake it somewhere such as quick fit? I know if I phone the dealer they will tell me lies
2. Bazza Says: The European parliament passed a law some time ago called the 'Block Exemption Act' Don't ask me to explain the title, but it meant that manufactures could not void warranties if you had your car serviced to their specification at a non franchise garage,.
However, you must make sure that the service complies with the specification and parts are genuine and the invoice details exactly what has been done.
I don't know about Kwik Fit. But there are non dealer garages that specialise in particular makes. That is they advertise servicing on a specific make. Personally I would not take a chance with Kwik Fit. If I were not to use a dealer I would take it to a garage specialist.
3. EvelynThe ModifiedDog. Says: Dodgy ground.

Legally no, although the dealer will probably try to use the fact that you've had it serviced at a non-franchise garage as an excuse to weasel out of any warranty work, should the car ever need any.

But FFS, don't EVER take a car to KwikFit.....You want lies? They'll tell you your 2 year old car needs brakes, shocks, exhaust, you name it.

I would go to the main dealer till the warranty ruins out, it will be a false economy if you try and service it on the cheap.
4. Timbo is here Says: No you do not have to go to the main dealer - you need to use a garage that is VAT registered and uses parts of equal or better quality if the manufactures warranty is to remain valid

No one can say whether £180 is a good or bad price. Costs for servicing vary depending on the car, miles covered, years owned - you have given too little detail of this.
5. Iyad K Says: Depends on the kind of service. Personally, some things are best left to the dealer while others are better at a small shop. Engine and transmission work are best left for the dealer under warranty. If you put in non oem parts into your cat and they cause other parts to fail, then the dealer won't replace those parts under warranty.

Most dealers mechanics can't tell if there was work done on a car elsewhere. keep records of your repairs.
6. thebax2006 Says: If you want to take care of the vehicle properly and make sure it gets any factory recalls or computer reflashes for things like hard or delayed shifting it's best to go to the dealer where they have all the information and TSBs for your car. You get what you pay for. Stay away from the high school drop out joints!
7. jamand Says: Kwik fit - are you serious......DON'T....they are the worst place you could go......they will lie to you more than a main dealer....

Aside from that - NO you don't have to have the main dealer service it - the only catch may be if there is a warranty in place that stipulates that they must service it. If you take it elsewhere, that warranty could be made void.

You makes your choice
8. boy boy Says: you can have it serviced anywhere ..is your car still under warranty ? if yes then its less hastle if you do use main dealer ..if anything goes wrong under warranty they may try to blame the fact it was not serviced by them ..though legally they cant ..but garages are garages ...but you can do a lot better than quickfit .
9. Hugo Says: You don't have too, but it maybe a condition of warranty that you do, basically you pay your money and take your chance. I have to say that Kwik Fit would be way down my list of service providers.

£180 for an annual full service seems ok. I've just paid £160 for a first service on my wife's new car.
10. Larry E Says: I did take my jeep to the dealer for oil changes until they started to come up with all kinds of other things that they said it needed and a simple oil change started to run me over a hundred bucks so I said screw them and take it somewhere else now.
11. Albert Says: look for a car repair shop in the good garage scheme i have used them in different parts of the country and they have always been cheaper than a main dealer with fancy receptions and free coffee
12. The original Peter G Says: No, but if you have a warranty you must use the manufacturers parts, and a competent workshop
