1. italianchick9332006 Says: I'm 19 years old and just want a cheap car with not too many miles on it.

I have been looking at cars that are $5000 maximum.

I would like either a Ford, Honda, Chevy, or something like that..I really like the Honda civic and the Chevy impala
2. DezertKing83 Says: Well you already know my opinion but an impala?????? Nooooo!!!!
3. American Idle Says: Buying a used car has no effect on the country. When you buy new it definitely does, because if you buy American the money stays here, and GM, Ford, and Chrysler, in that order, have the most American jobs. When you're buying used, the company that made the car has already made all their profit from the original sale. You're just giving money to the dealer/private seller, so the "support your country" argument doesn't work here.

Today the best cars are American and Korean. They have made huge gains in quality and reliability over the last few years. The Japanese, in the same period, have only been taking baby steps and have been surpassed. 10 years ago that wasn't the story though. If you're looking at cars from the 90's until about 2007, you want to go Japanese for reliability.

The Civic is a great car. I'd take it over it's arch rival, the Toyota Corolla, because it's sportier and a lot more fun to drive. You also have to consider miles. If you're looking at a Civic with 150K and an Impala with 75K, even though the Civic was a more reliable car to start with, you can't overcome that difference in mileage and the Impala in that case would be the better buy.
4. Mike Says: Out of those two, get the Civic. I usually like to avoid domestic cars. They just feel cheap. The civic will generally last longer with less problems.

Edit: A lot of "imports" these days are assembled in America. Simply put, the quality of Japanese and German cars is unmatched, especially by the US companies.
5. MJC Says: The Civic will probably be cheaper to maintain and last longer so that is your best choice of the two.
