Water leak in Dodge Neon.?
(2012-02-02 15:15:05) 1. Says: I have a Dodge Neon I'm not sure what the year is but I recently bought it from a friend probably about a year ago. The problem I'm having is the back right seat is wet and it's not drying it's been wet for about 2 months now and it will dry. However I cannot tell where the leak is coming from there's no obvious signs of water and it's only in that one spot. When I got the car the back seat was dry and It just started being wet about 2 months. Does anybody know what could cause this?2. Says: Water leaks can be a pain to find. The first thing I'd do is look under the spare tire cover in the trunk and see if the spare tire well has water in it. It's not unusual for water that accumulates there to slosh forwards when braking and get the back seat wet. If there is water there then the leak is most likely in the trunk area.
If it's the top of the seat that's wet it's most likely coming from the gap where the door meets the roof area and dripping down. This can happen after somebody has shimmed the top of the door to get a rod down in there after they've locked the keys in the car or something. Open the door and check that the weatherstrip around the door opening and/or the door weatherstrip are tight. If the door seems to have a gap you can adjust it. The way this is done is to actually physically bend the door frame a bit. Open the door, roll down the window to make the top bit less rigid. Stand between the open door and the side of the car and put your knee in the area where the window frame meets the main part of the door. Give the top of the door a quick firm jerk. (Not too hard or you'll crease the metal - just enough so when you shut the door it sits tighter to the car.) You might have to do this a few times.
If the leak source is not obvious then strip-out the trunk trims and/or rear seat and then get in the car while a friend holds a garden hose over different areas on the outside until you can see where the water is coming in. Sometimes you'll just have to lay the hose on the car for ten or fifteen minutes before it starts leaking if it is a really small leak. Tag: Water leak in Dodge Neon.?
