That is the type engine used from 1972 to 1982 VW buses.
Before that is was used on the Porsche 914.
It is a good engine.
It will bolt right into a 1968, with no problem.
But when it comes to the rest that is not with the engine, you would have to improvise.
For example, you would have to provide, intake, exhaust, fuel delivery, etc.
You could get these parts from a later bus, or custom after market parts.
The engine is longer as well because of the crank fan instead of the generator fan, so there would have to be some fitting at the cover piece on the end, and other shrouding.
The fact it is heavier will wear motor mounts faster, but not really a problem.
If you went with fuel injection, then you would need to rig a return line to the tank, as well as obtaining a fuel pump and filter mount.
While all not hard, this would not be the same as the original, so would alter its collectible value.
Since is has 50% more hp, it increases value in some ways.
So it has pros and cons. Tag: Is this engine good for a 1968 Deluxe VW Bus?
