1. Ignacio Says: I'm planning on fixing up my car its not running and I'm wondering if I can make it do wheelies? Do I have too change it too a stickshift?and will doing constant wheelys mess up my car and if so is there anything I can do too it too make it do wheelys safely or reduce damage? Thanks
2. chevyraceman_383 Says: Yes it can do wheelies.. No it will NOT cost $100,000 like one person said, but no you aint gonna just slap a crate engine over it and pull the front wheels.

Wheel stands are due to 5 major things
1) torque
2) traction
3) weight transfer
4) Launch RPM
5) gear ratio

No you do not want a stick shift.. Most manual transmissions will break with that type of torque and rpm load o them. You will want a high stall torque converter, th-400 auto trans with a trans brake.

You will need about a 500 -550 HP engine with about the same amount of torque

Then you need weight transfer and placement. Move the battery to rear, replace front end of car with a fiberglass front end.

You need a great hooking suspension.. Think ladder bars and coil overs here.

Sticky tires like slicks

You need rear end that can handle the stress wihout breaking.. So chevy 12 bolt, ford 9" or dana 60

You will need steap rear gears, 4.10 or better, 4.56 or 4.88 would be best.

All the above will get you there and cost you about $18,000 if you can do the labor yourself, double that if you have to have a shop to do it for you

Now I do have to slighly disagree with some of the comments of other people. A 350 will do it but not in anywhere close to stock form.

I have a 1988 camaro that I built. I have about $19,000 in it. 355 small block making 596 HP at crank, th-400 auto trans, ford 9" rear, full aftermarket suspension, DOT legal slicks, etc etc. Race weight of 3320 lbs with me in it and 5 gallons of fuel. It's a street legal car and in fact was a daily driver for a few years. At the drag strip, if the track has had good prep, on launch I get 4-6" of air under my front tires
3. Ryan Wandell Says: A stock 71' Monte Carlo is pushing 2 tons. That's a lot of weight on the rear axle, so if you plan on doing wheelies you'll need the proper suspension for doing so. You'd need re-enforced front and rear shock housings and heavy duty shocks/springs to do so.

A typical wheelie is a sign of a massive amount of torque, more than anything. The 1971 Carlo's 350 V8 engine only provided about 300 FT. pounds of torque, you're going to want to put a bigger block v8 motor in it, with a heavy duty drive shaft.

An automatic vehicle isn't geared for what your asking this car to do, a manual transmission with quick-geared ratios will do the job.

I hope I've helped.
4. H.M.C speed Says: Get real. NO, it's not going to do "wheelies". not unless you invest around a Hundred grand in it.
You'd need a BIG engine, good trans, narrowed rear axle with huge sticky tires, full cage, etc.
The list goes on & on.
It can be done, but you aint doin it with a 350 & not in a regular street car!
Stick to watching it in the movies!
5. Knuckles Says: Yes.......you just need a 502 or 572 crate motor, Turbo 400 w/ trans-brake, subframe connectors and a roll bar to triangulate the chassis, and a set of 14X32's out back.....piece o' cake
