My altimas stuck in park...could it be sensor valve to master cylinder?

1. Rufdimund Says: Im holding down the brake and the shift lever will not move from park unless i bypass the solenoid that is in the console of the shift assembly. i have replaced the shift assembly but after doing so my brakes locked up during the test drive. its still sticking in park and since then i have replaced the battery and ascd switch but with no luck. COULD IT BE MY SENSOR VALVE causing all this? if so do i need to have a diagnostic done? does it have to be by the dealer if i need one or any mechanic?
2. Pilsner Man Says: The shift solenoid has nothing to do with the brakes locking up. I have never seen a modern car's brakes lock up.

The shift solenoid is usually controlled by a switch on the brake pedal. On many cars, there are two switches, since they are used for the brake lights, cruise control disengage, ABS and shift lock.

I wouldn't take it to a stealership. You can google your problems, and there is probably an Altima owner's forum out there.
3. Mark F Says: 1. Have someone stand behind the car.
2. Apply the brake pedal. Do the brake lights come on? If you need a $30 brake light switch.

You should have gone to a professional before you started wasting a ton of money fixing things that were not broken.
