How long does it take to change out an oil pan?

1. BG Says: I have a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0

I ran over a tire that fell off of a truck in front of me and busted the oil pan. I immediately pulled over and had my car towed.

The mechanic has the oil pan ready to put on and the old one taken off so how long should the total job take?

Thanks!
2. Tom C Says: Sorry, all I can give is a generic answer.

It depends on how accessible the oil pan is.
If it's easily accessible, then maybe 30 minutes once they have it on the lift.
If not, then it depends on how much other stuff is in the way. On my old Ford Ranger, I could do it quick, but on my old Mazda Tribute, I had to take half the car apart to remove it.

There's also a chance you damaged the frame or bolt holes that the pan fits into. If so, it might be very time consuming to repair.
3. g Says: Should be a very fast replacement. Unbolt the old, replace the gasket, and secure the new. Less than a hour for sure. Most garages might charge you an hour labor, minimum, however.
