Will towing hurt the car?

1. Ming Says: i am trying to buy a car right now. the car i am check it has a towing kit on it. it is 05 honda accord ex with manual transmission. i just wondering does the indiate indicate the car use for towing? does towing to much going to hurt the car's engine, transmission or cluth? the car has 80000 mile on it, the dealer ask for 12000 is it a reasonable price?

Towing a boat to the lake 6-8 times a year isn't going to materially harm a car.

If they were towing something heavy nearly all 80,000 miles, it might be a different story.

Not sure an 05 honda with 80k is worth $12k.

Sounds really high.

3. Josh Says: That seems like a reasonable price for that car (about that much on ebay motors). But if you mean that the car has a towing hitch then yeah you can tow with it. It doesn't mean that you can get a big trailer and hook it up and haul stuff around town, but you can use a small trailer or a bike rack, stuff like that. As for hurting your engine and transmission, if you aren't towing anything heavy, you should be fine. Just accelerate a little slower and stuff like that.
