a.t. Says: 3800 series II vin K. It idles at 1000 rpm normally in park, about 900 rpm in drive.. To my understanding, idle should be at at around 650-800 rpm in park. Should I worry about this? I have replaced the fuel pressure regulator and the idle air valve (both needing repairs unrelated to idle). I also have new coil packs, wires, and plugs, all with less than 8,000 miles on them.

ruskinflgator Says: That particular engine was prone to intake manifold problems, and a vacuum leak can indeed cause a higher than commanded idle speed. However, if you are using the tach in the car, you might want to have a professional shop check the ACTUAL RPM. Also, throttle plates that are dirty can cause idle problems.

Joseph Says: sounds like a small vacuum leak
