Is my vehicle fuel consumption reasonable for its age and model ?
(2012-02-03 15:20:08) 1. Says: I drive a 12 year old [W reg ] Ford Fiesta Zetac 1.4 car,and I am averaging about 25 mpg. .I do not do great mileage [ about 3000 miles per year ] and I wondered if this fuel was what I might expect. It seems a bit low to me and if so could any mechanic out there advise what might be causing the fuel consuption to be so low.Any thoughts would be appreciated..2. Says: There are a few things you can do to help it. I have the same car as you just a few years older and I probably get more mpg than that. As someone else said, check your tire pressures every week and top them up if you need to. It's pretty important. Also if you have unnecessary things in your car that could be weighing you down. The lighter your car is the less fuel it'll get through because obviously the car won't have to pull so much therefore use less revs, less fuel.3. Says: RIDICULOUS! You shouldl get about 30% more economy from this engine!!! STOP suing CHEAP oil change bargain basement ENGINE OIL!!! THis will RUIN the engine over time, make sludge, varnish, and CLOUD up you engine sensors. THis ALONE will ruin your mileage. MOBIL ONE 0W_3 or TOTAL oil from France are GREAT choices. Get SOMEONE to clean your THROTTLE BODY and IAC valve (idle air control). These FINE TUNE your air/fuel mixture under the guidance of your O2 senosr(s). If your IAC gets SLUDGED up from cheap oil vapors, it CANNOT respond and your power, mileage and emissions SUFFER!!! ANy quicky lube is CAPABLE of cleaning these things up FOR YOU!! Run cleaner THROUGH your PCV VALVE with engine running. This will REMOVE carbon from your PISTON RINGS and set things right again!! Install a fresh set of BOSCH IRIDIUIM plugs and your ON YOUR WAY!!! E-mail me BACK with your results!!4. Says: You need to be more specific but:
When the car was brand new the estimated MPG for that car was 30–35 MPG if I'm not mistaken. Age and normal wear and tear with ANY car can hurt the MPG a little it's hard to give you an accurate answer without knowing everything about your car.
EX: Is your check engine light on? Why? A bad o2 sensor can hurt you MPG any where from 4-8 MPG.5. Says: With that low annual mileage, I have to ask...do you check your tire pressure before you drive? Also, if you drive non-highway miles, that will hurt your mileage. In any case, it does seem a little low (I drive a Windstar and get 24-25 highway.)6. Says: Being as you drive so little, it seems you're being overly obsessive about something you have no reason to be even the least bit concerned about.
