Weird noise after turning left through a puddle?
(2012-02-03 15:20:09) 1. Says: This has happened twice now, and I can't seem to find the answer anywhere on the internet. Today I turned left into my parking space in a parking lot... it was raining pretty hard and there was water all over the lot. I didn't turn particularly hard or anything, but my car made this loud, deep noise... I can't really describe where it was coming from, it was just a loud drone while I was doing the turn. After that, the heater began SCREAMING... like not a mechanical noise. It literally sounded like a mouse screaming, for lack of a better analogy. I turned off the heat, and the noise immediately stopped. I restarted the car about 30 seconds later and all was well. It's running just like it normally does. This also happened after it had been raining and I turned left into my driveway, which also had a big puddle. There was no deep drone, but the heater was screaming. I drive a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT sedan... help!?!2. Says: Sounds like you have two separate problems. First, the drone noise is possibly the result of the power steering pump that is either low on fluid due to a leak, or it could be failing. Remove the cap for the power steering fluid reservoir and check to see if it is filled to the proper level. the stem on the cap will be coated with fluid and there are markings on the stem indicating the fluid level. If the level is too low, or not registering at all on the stem, then you are low on power steering fluid, which could mean you have a leak. Check the lines going from the power steering pump to the rack and pinion assembly and note anywhere that looks wet with fluid, which would tell where the leak is, and the corresponding part(s) would need to either be tightened up or resealed (if its just a loose fitting), or parts would need to be replaced. As for the screaming heater, this one is easy because it is a common problem on these kinds of cars. Water is leaking through the air ducts when it rains and it is collecting on the passenger floorboard and saturating the carpet, which you might have noticed before. Well, as this water trickles to the carpet. it passes through the blower motor and some will collect on the armature bearings inside the motor. This causes the bearings to rust, and stiff, rusty bearings will become deteriorated and hinder the rotation of the armature, and consequently, produce the screaming noise. This fix is actually a two-part solution. First, the blower motor will have to be replaced. It is screaming now, it won't be long until it seizes up and refuses to operate again. It runs around $80-$100 dollars at autozone. The second fix is to get some silicone sealer of some kind and apply it in between the windshield and the plastic cowl at the bottom, completely across, from one end of the cowl to the other.
How do I know this? My sister has a 98 Oldsmobile Intrigue which has the same body code as your Grand Prix and consequently, the same problems, which I fixed and havent had a problem since.3. Says: check the power steering fluid reservoir and see if it is filled to the proper level or not.
Then also check if the sound appears, while making sharp turning to left or not.
If it happened, then the problem is related to the coupling......Go to workshop to fix.
Awaiting your response4. Says: Hi
have you checked the fan belt lately as it sounds like it may be worn or just loose.
a fan belt gets hot when it is not adjusted right as it is slipping get it wet and it will make all sorts of noises. then we have the water pump if you look under the hood is the white water stains around the water pump if the there is the water pump may need to be replaced. and if that fan belt is loose as well then that might also make noise.
come on boys lift the hood and use your eyes and ears get down and personal with your motors as we used to as it is a lot cheaper than a mechanic. Tag: Weird noise after turning left through a puddle?
