Driving with no insurance and counter sue penalties and fines?

1. torre Says: I was driving and backed into a car (unknowingly in a huge van) and a few people came out of their house chasing me. At the time i was a little freaked out not racist (but a few mexican looking gangsters i'm a little white girl) and they followed me in my van for a few miles tail gating me i pulled over to a gas station and some guy was on the phone i tried talking to him and the cops showed up. I borrowed my grandpas van i didn't know his insurance expired last year. And the cops wanted to get me for hit and run but i told them the situation they gave me a citation for driving without proof of insurance i called grandpa who said that there is no insurance I was heartbroken :( and then i heard the guy telling the cop he wants restituation! And the dent is small as a tennis ball and a small 2 inch scratch! And I know the car I hit is brand new with full liability. My grandpa doesn't know yet! But the real question is what is the pentalities and how much can he sue me for ideally what is the best and worst outcome. Please no rude comments I know i should have known there wasn't insurance nothing to do now about that but what's going to happen?
