Why is my truck misfiring?

1. johnwayneis Says: I have an 2004 f150 4.6 litre v8. For some reason, only god knows why. The dang thing is misfiring. I was missing a little bit before I had the plugs changed, but then I had them changed and now it's a little worse. Well my friend said one of the new plugs was bad, so I we replaced in. Ran good for awhile, then it went to actin up again. I took the truck down to the votech and they had a diagnostic machine they hooked it up too and said it read no codes or that it didn't say that a spark plug was misfring. But the mngr down at sallisaw ford said if it's misfiring that the tester they got will pick it up. I'm really seriously thinking about it. I mean because they probably actually have a ford computer or something. What do ya'll think I should do? thanks!
2. matt Says: Someone is lying to you, or incompetent, and it sounds like the Votech school.
Your computer is capable of detecting misfires that you can't even feel. If your engine was misfiring badly enough that you can tell just by driving it, your computer will have codes stored in it. Head to Autozone, have them pull codes and write them down. Misfire codes are
P0300 - random multiple
P0301 - cylinder 1
P0302 - cylinder 2
and so on.

This will help you figure out what's going on. From there you can switch coil packs and plugs around, follow the code and you'll find the source.
