What is the average price for a paint job?

1. Nikhila Says: Last night I got into an accident but everything is fine. My car is a Lexus ES 350 2011 and black. I have 4 inch scratch but no dents or anything like that. Can I just get that section painted or do I need the whole thing painted. And do scratches on the caps of wheels need to be repainted too? And another question, I am getting a quote on it at the lexus dealer today but I want to know if I have to get that paint job at lexus or somewhere else. Thank you so much for your help.

2. crnd Says: You just need to have that section painted. Expect something around $400 or so. Most dealers don't do their own paint work anyway (they send it out), so any decent auto repair shop can do it. You won't be able to tell the difference. Go to an auto body repair place though, not a discount auto paint place.

The wheels don't get painted, and paint doesn't fix scratches anyway (you just get painted scratches). You either replace it, or live with it.

Finally, depending on how big and deep the scratch is, touch-up paint is always an option too. Cost about $10 at the dealer, same paint as your car, goes on like fingernail polish. It won't look as professional as having a pro even out the scratch and repaint the whole panel, but heh, it's only $10. You could always try that first and go with the expensive fix if you're not satisfied with the result. Won't hurt anything.

3. Gene Says: You use a lot of "have to" qualifiers. Is this a lease turn-in? If not, it's your car, and you don't have to do anything you don't want to pay for.

For a lease turn in, you are normally ahead to repair scratches or damage yourself versus pay what the dealer will charge.

Either way you go, choose a body shop that you trust, ask folks who have had work done in the past there, and check the BBB to see if they have any complaints. And you don't have to go to Lexus for paint... any body shop can do it.

you can get any or all of you car painted,,,any shop can do it as paint color is mixed by computer
