2. ? Says: They are just to monitor traffic. Ever seen on the news when they show the traffic in areas? That's where it comes from. Also, if I crime is comitted, like a bank robbery, they will look at those tapes if the people were in that area.
But they dont do anything for red light runners. Don't worry.
3. MICHAEL PAGLIARO Says: In some cases these are just traffic control sensors that trigger traffic light cycling according to traffic flow. Years ago, there were magnetic sensors buried in the pavement which "sensed" a vehicle in or approaching the intersection in order to signal the traffic light cycle. If you ever road a motorcycle, you know how frustrating these pavement sensors could be because there was not always enough of a magnetic field created by a motorcycle.

In other cases, this may just be a camera that the state DOT or your local government has installed to visually monitor traffic conditions.In some municipalities, so called "red light cameras" have been disabled because the courts have found their use illegal. The cameras may still be in place, but no citations are issued.
