Dealer Charged 400 for License and it only cost 324.15?
(2012-02-03 15:30:07) 1. Says: It states on my purchase invoice: License, License Transfer, Title, Registration Fee 400.00 and that's what they charged for that. On our registration receipt from the Tax Collector that the Dealer provided us with it only says 324.15.Is there any way that I can get the extra money that they charged back? Thank you2. Says: My state has a limit on how much one can legally charge for a title fee.
Dealers pay the state $15.00 but the state allows dealers to charge $16.50.
Ive seen dealers put down $20, $25 & $35 title fees but I never dared because my paperwork from the state forbid it and I didn't want the potential regulatory headache.
Dealers are free to charge whatever "doc fee" the customer is willing to pay.
I didn't use to charge any but I kept hearing from so many other dealers who would charge it and no customers would say anything. So I started charging a small doc fee...and I rarely had anyone complain. Later I increased it and it was the same thing. people assumed it was part of tax & title.
So it was just extra profit.
A few people refused to pay it and in such cases, I reduced the price of the car by the amount of the doc fee and left the doc fee on there. I was told that I shouldn't selectively charge it, I need to charge it to EVERYONE so I did.
It cant hurt to ask for the difference back or even contact a regulatory agency. Worse they can say is "no" or "sue me".3. Says: When buying from a dealer there is always a paperwork or what they call a doc fee you have to pay. Is the reciept you're looking at just reflecting sales tax and not the tranfer plate fee, registration fee or title fee? Usually on the RD108 form the dealers fill out all these prises should be isolated on the right side of the paper. But more then likely it is their doc fee which some dealers will charge up to $200.00 for. Sorry I couldn't be more help4. Says: I work at a dealership and we charge the Lic.fee a title fee a registration fee and yes a Doc. fee and that Doc. fee varies from dealer to dealer but in any case we clearly explain what each fee is for.5. Says: Your mistake is you let the dealer do all of this and they always charge a big amount. Next time do it yourself and save a lot of money.6. Says: The difference is probably for the rest that you listed...license, transfer, and title.7. Says: For the extra 75$ show him the paperwork Tag: Dealer Charged 400 for License and it only cost 324.15?
