Are Pontiac Firebirds good cars (read description)?

1. RedBullGYW Says: I'm 15 and need a car for personal reasons involving my parents divorce. I found a good 1995 Pontiac Firebird, but I have a few questions about it.

Are they good cars in general? Like reliability?
This one website says it gets about 20 mpg city. Is this right?
Is it hard to drive in snow?
In normal conditions, is it hard to drive?
This one is weird but too bad. Is it hard to park because of how long the fron end is?
Is it worth $6,000 for a 1995 base model with 68k miles?

Thanks, I really do appreciate it. As always, have a nice day
2. chevyraceman_383 Says: Yeah they are great cars. Look for over 200K miles out of it easy.

With the V6, real world cond. will be around 17-18 mph city and 23 mph highway

Yes, very hard to drive in the snow. Not good at all for snow. This is true for most rear wheel drives though. It can be done and has been done billions of times but it takes some skill and know how

In reg. cond it drives like a dream. Handles great, good power but not enough to get sideways real quick.

Yes you are correct, at 1st parking is harder due to front end lenght, windsheild slope and how low you sit. Looking out from drivers seat you cant see nose of car, only abput 3 ft in front of nose and fruther.. So you have to get use to that. It's not that big of deal and you will get use to it pretty quick. Just in the start you need to pull into parking spaces real slow and creep up to the curb, bump stoper, etc.

$6,000 is on the high side for a V6 model but the low 68K miles makes it worth it.

Common used prices/mileage on a 95 is around $2800-3600 but with 140-160K miles

So 68K miles makes it worth the $6,000
3. joe Says: as soon as i read is it hard to drive in the snow i stoped this is not the car for you, you will be lucky to get it out of your driveway and if you do your 15 you will definitely crash it if you do get it out of your driveway. id stick with pontiac though grand am maybe? oh also the ls1 v8 gets 26mph highway dont lissen to these liars lol and there very reliable but its not the car for you its rated a 30 mpg highway for the base model
4. roger Says: its unlikely to have 68 k miles more like 168 k but it all depends on what the drivers seat tells your butt. Low miles car interior will be perfect and I mean mint. if it has wear and shows up kind of shiny in spots and the drivers door is loose and sloppy and swings freely the mileag is likely double As to 6 grand that seems a little high to me I went to www.nada.com and then on to hemmings.com and did a price check nada guide www.nada.com and as I thought 6k is too high. Lets say the mileage is correct the car books at clean retail with a 900 dollar addition for the mileage at 4,200 and trade in value is 2,700 which is what my offer would be at this point
I understand what you wrote and there are some issues that come always come up but if that vehicle is in a dealer lot theay are asking too much.
5. Bill Says: Yes they are good cars. The 1995 has the 3.4 engine which has proven to be a good engine which is one reason why so many 4th gens are still on the road. 20mpg sounds about right. And for snow they are bad in snow anything you get with rwd will be bad. And for parking they do sit low and they dont have the best visibility in the world but enough pratice you will be fine. Also its worth more like 4grand.... if that

They're avg in terms of reliability.
20 MPG depending on the engine. If it's the v6 and you drive it right yeah. 5.7 v8 won't get 20MPG.
It's a Rear-wheel-drive so it'll be tougher than most, but there's worse cars out there.
It's easy to drive in the summer, if the tires are good and you drive it right.
Not to hard to park, unless you are parallel parking, which still isn't hard.
That is low miles for a 17 year old car, but that worries me that it might've sat for some time. It's a fair price, but I'd try and talk him down to 5,000 tops.
