Dodge Ram 1500 Radiator Leak. Help?

(2012-02-04 15:20:07)
1. Adam Says: Okay, so I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 that has a radiator leak from the metal grating cooling cores on the lower left side of the very front. It only leaks when the truck has been running for awhile and then is shut off, it leaks (not gushes, but not dribbles either) for a little while then stops. Obviously this is a problem, but will a bottle of radiator sealant fix this for the time being, or do I need to get a new radiator ASAP? Also from my description, does it sound like anything else major could be an issue?
2. rusty math Says: If Alumaseal does not work, then go to your local self serve wrecking yard and get a good used radiator. That is unless you don't mind paying up to $300 for weld repair, or $600 for a new one.
You can get a used one that will probably outlast the rest of the vehicle for about $40. Radiator repair shops are the ones who spread the false rumor about clogging up the cooling system with Alumaseal. It's a time tested proven product that has been working great for many years.
3. bandit_60 Says: your better off to remove the radiator, clean it off good and solder the leak.it should hold unless the radiator is rotten and breaks out someplace else.
4. nitrobreath2000 Says: Replace the radiator with a new one at your local radiator shop. They are experts. A leaking radiator leads to engine overheat and that is the equivalent to a person having a heart attack.

Good Luck
5. Bill Buttlicker Says: Alumaseal will work generally.
But
use with caution.
You can plug up your whole cooling system or fix the radiator and plug the heater core.
