Low coolant warning light?

(2012-02-04 15:20:37)
1. Bb Zi Says: Two days ago low coolant light popped up on my 1999 Pontiac Grandam. Yesterday I bought a 3.78 L can of coolant and put the whole thing in the tank. It didn't fill up to the full mark line, just about an inch lower than that. The problem is that low coolant warning light still won't go away.

Note: The coolant that was in my car was green color one, the one I bought yesterday was red color one. Does it matter?

Thanks!
2. kevusaborn Says: You should have used prestone and not mixed coolant colors but what's done is done.

When the car engine is very cool, fill the radiator with more coolant instead of the reservoir.

You need to remove the radiator cap to do this. At this point it sounds like you've got a

leak in your system and this coolant is going to be lost . So to sum things up, I would take

the car to a reputable mechanic for a diagnosis & repair.
3. Joseph Says: that depends on the type of coolant that red coolant was, some will mix with green and some won't. the cooling system of the G/A is a closed type cooling system they have to bled out in a certain manner. most shops will tell you how to do that. if after you have done that and it's still on then the switch is stuck and that is located in the radiator.
