Query about buying car from motor dealer ?

(2012-02-04 15:30:07)
1. sunnyday Says: i went to buy a used car from well known motor dealer and they want to charge me £96. to check car does not have any outstanding finance on it . surely they will have done this when they bought car From auction ? is it worth paying extra for ?
2. Bazza Says: That would be enough for me to walk away. Cheeky bastards. Find another dealer. These don't deserve your custom.
3. Please punctuate properly, folks Says: A Dealer lives on Profit. I refuse to feed them, I always buy privately, which lets me see what sort of person the Owner is. The phrase is "Only buy a car from someone you like" - if they seem to be the sort of person who has respected and cared for a car, isn't that better than buying a car from a Dealer? People often neglect a car which they are going to trade-in.

This "Dealer" is essentially saying "Gee, Y'know, someone else may actually own this car!" - in which case, they have no damn busine$$ in selling it, do they?

Walk away. Find the car you like on eBay, within a reasonable distance. View before bidding, and good luck to you.
4. tex k Says: Most car dealers charge a fee for administration and checks done on the vehicle to make sure it is not stolen or has outstanding finance. These costs are simply passed on to customers.Garages that don't charge simply have higher headline prices so the cost is included. Most companies that do these checks charge around £5 but shop around online for HPI checks to find one you like. £96 is steep for this simple check but it is probably just an admin charge and cannot be simply turned down.
5. EvelynThe ModifiedDog. Says: Scam, walk away.

An HPi check (which you can do yourself - Google it) costs about £15.
Sounds like one of those "Car Giant/MotorWorld" type places (Or Arnold Clark) who just want as much of your money as they can possible screw out of you.

There are better ways of buying a car.
