Is it a good idea to buy cars that are on the side of the road with a for sale sign?

1. G-SLIM Says: I was driving through this small town at night and on the side of the road there was this 1990-3 Honda Accord for $900.

Should I buy it or should I pass?

I mean couldn't vandals have done damage to it since it was sitting out in an empty lot during the night?
2. roger Says: fortunately not everyone lives near a low income housing project where drug dealing, prostitution and rotten kids vandalize anything nicer than thier bicycle. Some of the best cheapest cars I ever found were sitting on the side of the road for sale. Often times it was some older man or woman who got a nicer newer car and had a low miles decent one to sell and were not interested in grinding every dime out of somone while lying about mechanical issues.
I would call on my cell phone and if it was an older guy or couple and the price was right I would stop and check it out. Often times I found a car for sale on the side of the road, after driving to one for sale in the paper only to find yet another high mileage beat to piss car that the owner lied about.
sometimes you get lucky and run across a jewel in the sea of used cars, and ended up taking home a nice car. So stop and take a look you never know. I found some 200 or 300 dollar cars that way that the owner didnt need the car or the money and was giving the first guy who showed up a killer 2000 dollar car for 300 bucks. and other times some guy was selling a beat pile of crap for 1,500 that was not worth 200 .play the game and take your chance I always went with cars owned by older owners.
3. g Says: Buying a used car from a private seller can potentially be a very good deal. Selling price is usually much better than from a dealer. All comes down to it's condition. Talk to the seller, ask for maintenance and service records. If it has been properly maintained then it very well could be a decent deal.
4. Fred F Says: Normally a bad idea.

Also, before any money changes hands, go to the DMV with the seller to transfer ownership.
5. etorres98 Says: Any vehicle with a for sale sign is worth looking at. Just make sure you do your research, test drive the car and make your decision.
6. Pooja Says: That car is just so old even for a Honda. You gotta wonder how many more good years it has left in it.
