Towing cross country with a ' 99 Honda?

1. ChickVicious Says: I don't know much about cars and im traveling from Illinois to California very soon. Question is can my 1999 Honda Accord LX tow a 4 x 4 x 8 trailer that distance. I don't plan on packing much, mostly clothes, personal belongings, toys etc.. Nothing big or heavy, no furniture. Just need a small trailer to carry our stuff which wont fit in the car. Im not sure about the towing capacity or anything, need help! Any advice will help, thank you.

2. Will Says: My biggest concern would be keeping your transmission fluid temperature in check. Your car was never designed to tow anything so it doesn't have an inline cooler for the ATF. I would look into an aftermarket cooler most place that sell trailer may have one or you might find one online. As for how much it's towing the total tongue and towing capacity is limited be the hitch for the most part but a universal hitch may not give an accurate "safe" towing weight. I personally would not exceed the gross vehicle load rating. You can find that on a sticker on the drivers door jamb with the tire information. Good luck.
