New brake job but still making noise any idears?
(2012-02-05 15:20:05) 1. Says: a few months ago i had my back brakes done----shoes/pad & drums/rotars (can not remember which i have) i also had my wheel cylinders done. shortly after i had my back brakes replaced the passenger side started to make a knocking noise whenever i applied them. i went back to the mechanic and he looked and found nothing. at his advice i had front and back brake lines replaced. they still continued to make noise. i knew my shocks in back where bad so i had them replaced along with new tires. the mechanic said he could not find anything, i am at my wits end because i do not know what could be making the noise. does anyone have any advice so i can sound a little more educated when i go and insist my mechanic takes me seriousally. oh the car is a 1996 dodge caravan 4cylinder. thank you so much2. Says: most likely they install the shoes on the back with out using some type of grease on the backing plate wear the shoes are making contact ,i used a white lithium grease ,a small dab will do ya ,also if they install the shoes on backwards it will make a clicking sound ,i would take it to les schwab and have a free brake inspection and see what they find wrong3. Says: First off, never return to that mechanic, he's a crook.Get a personal referral from a friend to an independent shop.
Let them diagnose and repair the problem.
If they do a good job and are fair with you (not necessarily the cheapest) give them all your automotive work.4. Says: did they install new hardware kits when they replaced the pads. if not it's probably the pads moving and causing the clunking noise. Tag: New brake job but still making noise any idears?
