HELP PLEASEE clicking sound, why wont my car start?
(2012-02-05 15:20:08) 1. Says: i have a 1998 ford fiesta that i haven't turned on for a year and a half. ive charged the battery and when i turn the ignition there's a fast clicking sound and the dashboard lights flicker. ive checked the battery with a multi meter and its giving out 11.8v and the battery is 12v so its clearly not that (unless the car needs a battery with a higher voltage) what do you suggest it could be? and how could i test this? preferably in simple terms please, thanks.2. Says: What he said - it's the battery! 11.8v is not 12v. Put your multimeter across another 'good' battery - that will read at a little over 12v. Your battery is not fully charged - and will not hold a charge - because it's knackered.3. Says: That machine gun sound is always a dead battery. I am astounded the battery has any charge left in it after a year. In any case, a battery that has been in an unused car for a year is beyond hope - replace it and the engine should start. Don't be surprised if the tires thump, though. The thump may go away or lessen, but often the thump is permanent.4. Says: it still could be the battery - are the connections good, in unsealed batteries you can see all the cells bubbling when charging may need to add in cold boiled water to just over plates. if one cell is not bubbling the battery is dead.check and recheck all connections inc earth
if battery good, connections good then solonoid / starter motor5. Says: Dud cell in the battery. It will give the correct meter reading but when the power is needed it fails.
You need a new battery.6. Says: Battery needs to be replaced.
Also volts don't mean squat, Amps do. Google "how to load test a battery" or save yourself some time and buy a new one.7. Says: it is the battery , !!!! Tag: HELP PLEASEE clicking sound, why wont my car start?
