Tire Tread going "Bald"!?

(2012-02-05 15:20:14)
1. Sara Drew Says: Hi, I noticed that my back tire treads are going bald! (What's the correct term?) I live in Trinidad so it's a rainy and hot climate. I recently got 2 new tires for the front but they're really expensive, so I just want to know what will happen if I leave the back until I have enough money to get new back tires! Also, I noticed that some tires are really smooth, but the tires that I have, have these things coming out of the sidewalls, kind of like SOFT spokes or strings sticking out. What are those called? And why are some tires made like that? Thank you!
2. Lone Ranger. Says: Regrets, in most nations, now, it is illegal to drive a vehicle which has any tires the tread is less then a certain depth.
A wooden match stick can be used as a handy tire tread depth gauge, if the tread is deeper then the match stick, you are legally safe.
The soft spokes you have seen on the sidewalls of tires, and also, on some new tires' road tread surfaces, are put there by the manufacturer to assure the buyer that the tire is brand new, and not partly used, when first fitted. These wear off rather quickly!
3. Zack Says: you need NEW tires lol you live in trinidad Texas?? i live near that area and the little wires that you call spokes are to help support the rubber like the put re-bar in concert. if you are see them little spokes lol than i would use them tires ANY MORE get some good used ones for like 20 to 35 dollars a tire depending on what type or make and wear on the tire or you are you talking about little rubber nettle looking things
4. Pilsner Man Says: How do they spell moron in Trinidad?

Find out and wear a nametag with it. In the mean time, get some new tires.
5. I Says: That means you better get two more tires!
