Which truck do you prefer?

Says: Toyota Tacoma for the best of what you are looking for. The Dodge is total junk and the other two, depending on which engine, transmission and drive train, aren't much better.3. Says: They are all terrible trucks. I'd go with a Nissan or Toyota instead, they do compact trucks much better.
The Dakota is like an awkward teenager. It is too big and thirsty to be a compact truck, but too small to compete with 1/2 tons. The worst quality of the three.
The S-10 is pretty thirsty too with the 4.3 engine (any others are gutless) and suffers from poor quality--though not as bad as the Dakota.
The Ranger is a prehistoric design that has been slowly upgraded over the years. But it is probably the best of the three--not that that is saying much. Tag: Which truck do you prefer?
