How well does touch up paint work on chips in the paint on a car?
(2012-02-05 15:25:09) 1. Says: My car has 2 chips on the hood. Not very big and I can just see the primer. If I got the matching paint from the manufacturing dealership would it look okay and what can I do to make it look the best possible? Also how much would it be at a body shop? Thanks.2. Says: For chips as small as you are describing touch up. Only use extremely new free flowing paint. Get a long length fine tip detailing sable brush at your local fine arts store. Pull out all but 6 hairs. Put a small amount of paint on the brush and paint the chip. Use several THIN layers. Do not try to fill with a single drop. Wait about five minutes between coats. Wait a week and lightly polish with polishing compound. NOT RUBBING compound. Wax with your favorite car wax. If you decide to have it professionally painted go to your dealer and find out where they get their work done. Maaco will not give you the kind of job you obviously are looking for. Nothing against maaco, but a dealer recommended paintshop is always the best idea.Good Luck!3.
