How much commission do car salesmen make on a car they sell?

There are usually other incentives where you can make more money as well. Like another answer said, after 10 cars they may bump you to 30% comm. or a bonus on aged units etc.3. For example, car was bought at auction for $9000.

Spent $200 cleaning it up=$9200.

Needed $350 worth of repairs=$9550.

Let say the pack is $500.

That means the total is $10,050, and you make 25% of everything over that.

You sell the car for $11,675. You make 25% of the difference.

$1625 x.25=$406.25.

You may make extra if you can get the buyer to finance through the dealer and/or buy things like extended warranties.

And the "pack" may well be much more than $500. That was 20 years ago.

There can be bonus cars where you make $500 regardless and things like that. Usually on cars that the dealer has had a long time or will lose money or not make much on.4. ElGrande Says: It all depends... each dealership will differ on there pay plan. Usually, they receive a percentage on the deal, minus what is called the "pack". Sometimes, dealers will tier the percentage earned depending on how many vehicles they sell... for example, if they sell between 1-10 cars, they receive 10%, if they sell more than 10 they'll receive 15%, more than 20 might get them 20% (and so on).
