(2012-02-06 15:15:18) 1. Says: how do i stop this anifreeze smell when i turn on the heater2. Says: the heater core has a small leak , and it only takes a very small leak to smell antifreeze , you might not even notice the little that the overflow bottle is losing3. Says: agreed, to add,any component under dash that handles the coolant delivery to the heater core, and the core itself,/or can still be the culprit.
i've seen heater cores, hoses and valves, w/ a really small leak, atomize instantly into a mist. but re-condense under dash and mostly evaporate. barely seep when cold. could take days to see evidence of that via coolant level. longer depending how often one drives.
this kind of attention is great. you may have caught an issue b4 it causes serious over-heating issues with the engine.
ppl that drive with their eyes, nose, ears, and seat of pants have a serious advantage over those who don't.

either you or a reputable ASE shop or dealer would do a visual inspection first. find, repair/replace the effected component. heater cores would need to be soldered if possible. in some instances, it can be done in place.
i haven't touched a pt, but, this one looks purdy involved to get to.
DIY heater core,

some of that may need to be done to allow for visual inspection.
looking at the manual, on this, one might pull the blower motor first. looks lots easier. can't see all sides and components. but you may see a leak you can fix/repair, w/o the need to disassemble the dash.
