1. Mitch Cope Says: I have a 1987 ford f250 with the 460 c.i. 7.5L and i am having an issue with getting it started it has spark but not when im cranking the motor, but when i let off the key from the cranking position it acts like it wants to fire, now i replaced the coil pack the icm and the starter as well as the starter relay solenoid. Someone told me that i might have to time the spark but my timing id on, before i only had to turn the key and crank the motor one turn and it fired right up I don't get it i am about to give up on it, i even tried to jump the starter relay to see if the ignition switch was out didn't work, and yes i have fuel and very good compression and a brand new battery. The motor is carburated.
2. mobile mike Says: Sounds like the pick up in the distributor. Turning the key on charges the ignition coil, but it doesn't get a signal from the distributor during cranking to tell it to spark. Turning the key off turns the power off to the coil causing a one time spark.
3. Mitch Cope Says: How do i adjust the magnetic pick up or bypass does anyone know ?
4. Adam Says: I had the exact same set up...87 with a 460, and I turned out to have needed a distributor cap and rotor button. Also is your wiring correct plugs n wires new? Cause if your cap n rotor are shot it will not spark if any at all.hope this was of any help.
