Cam chain tensioner question. motorcycle?
(2012-02-06 15:20:10) 1. Says: I've ballsed up i think.I am inspecting thing cam chain tensioner as i believed it had stuck and was not keeping the chain torte.
I could not undo the middle bolt however the top and bottom ones came off no problems. As i undid i heard a click and it freed up the spring.
I took it all out and checked it. The spring works great and every thing looks fine.
I started to install it. I placed it on the hole to make sure i knew what i was doing before bolting it back in.
For some reason it would not sit it. I thought i'd stick my finger in the hole to feel what was blocking it. As i pushed slightly something moved back and i heard a small click. Is this bad? I noticed the cam tensioner went deeper in but not fully.
i managed to free the chain tensioner bolt to sit the piston back in the device. but i am worried that when i placed my finger in the hole and pushed back something moved. did i tense the chain? All i know is that when i put the tensioner back in the piston will be longer as the depth is around 3cm deaper.
Any help will be much appreciated as i dont want to start her unless i know i have not broken the chain or slider or stretched something. Looking at pictures it seams that all i have done is tensed the chain as the cam chain tensioner pushes the slider in to keep the system tight?

Bearing in mind you thought is was stuck/wrong in the first place the click may have been something freeing up. Tag: Cam chain tensioner question. motorcycle?
